CHIANG MAI
King Mengrai founded the city of Chiang Mai
(meaning "new city") in 1296. Chiang Mai is
700 km ( 435 miles) north of Bangkok. The
city is the largest and most culturally significant
city in northern Thailand. The original city was
contained within walls with a moat surrounding
it. The moat and some of the walls and ancient
gates are still visible today. This feature adds
an air of uniqueness unknown to any other
major city in Asia. The city sits in a broad
valley amongst the highest mountains in
Thailand, which are the eastern edge of the
Himalayan Mountains that span Asia.
These mountains and the monsoons that pass
through the area from June to September keep
the area a lush green similar to the Pacific
Northwest in the United States.

IDLEWILD ADVENTURES
The teak forest and flowing rivers make for wonderful Flex
Adventure opportunities along with some of the most
picturesque golf courses in the world. While there are many
courses to choose from in the Chiang Mai region we have
chosen the best among them for your Chiang Mai Golf
Adventure. Rest assured, we have inspected them, played
them and most of all approved them for your enjoyment!
For those that are not on the golf adventure, Chiang Mai is a paradise
undiscovered by most visitors to Asia. Chiang Mai has over 300
Buddhist temples (called "wat" in Thai). These include Wat Phrathat Koi
Suthep dating from 1383 making it the most famous temple in the area.
The city stands on the Ping river, a major tributary of the Chao Phraya
river, so on our Flex Adventures there are rivers to float, temples to visit,
museums to browse, shopping at the famous night market, and many,
many more activities awaiting you. Click on the Chiang Mai Flex
adventures tab for more information.
From November to February during the cool season, Chiang Mai
province experiences pleasantly mild sunny weather with temperatures
in the city area on average ranging between 15 Celsius at night and
around 28 Celsius in daytime. At higher elevations, temperatures can
sometimes dip down to freezing point at night. It doesn't snow, but sleet
does occur at times. During the hot season, lasting from March to May,
temperatures especially in the city are high, rising into the high 30s.
The rainy season in the north is from June to October.
